Do you love the Great Lakes? I do. I love to climb the sand dunes on Lake Michigan, watch the sun set on Lake Superior from Copper Harbor in the Upper Peninsula, and ice fish on Lake Erie. I love to swim, fish, waterski, snorkel, and boat. I know that we are very fortunate to have access to these great bodies of freshwater to enjoy -- for pleasure, and most importantly as our source for drinking water.
Will you join me in loving the Great Lakes and take a personal action to protect them?
It's important to me that I do my part to protect the Lakes from sewage and stormwater pollution. Last year, I decided to use less water and I installed a new low-flow showerhead (proudly pictured hanging above me at right). I figured the less water that I used, the less wastewater I created.
Now I can say I am doing something to protect the lakes I love. This year I am pledging to disconnect my downspouts and connect them to rain barrels, so I can water my lawn with the rain instead of it going to waste washing down storm drains, or worse yet, washing sewage into Lake Michigan.
Help me protect the Lakes! Show your love by taking the pledge!
When you take the pledge, you'll be committing to do at least one thing to protect the Great Lakes. You can pledge to replace an old appliance with a water-efficient one, plant a tree, connect a rain barrel, use non-toxic cleaners, landscape with a rain garden, and much more.
Together, these small actions can make a difference for our Great Lakes. Take an action for the Great Lakes today by signing the pledge.
Thanks for all you do to protect the environment,
